Zipped installation packages have “.zip” at the end – also known as archives. It is one of the most popular ways to spread information and software over the internet. Another way is through those ending with “.scr” – it also activates or launches the screensaver.

The reason why there are so many formats is because these screensavers are created by programmers, and they differ from each other in their technical and specific point of view. They can easily extract files from secret system folders that most of the users have not heard before. This is why they can easily handle all sorts of files.
