Screen savers have a security purpose in businesses such as securing unattended desktops from prying eyes as people take their coffee breaks. These can be set as security extensions for people who work with financial institutions or other vital offices that may have confidential information displayed on their screens at all times. That is if they are configured right and used as they were designed for by the IT department or support personnel. Some people fail to realize the security these graphics programs can attain. Most people simply see them as a nuisance and IT sees it as a waste of time.
So why do we still have these programs bundled with our desktops and mobile workstations, they make them look good. Those were the days when people treated their desktops as parts or extensions of their workday, needing looks to suit one’s personality. Today however, mobile workstations are a far cry from their older CRT-based kin. There are still a lot of nice ones out on the market and one simply has to search. Just stay away from free searches (the term “free” is one of the main identifier of malware loaded web sites).
